Beginning Monday, Oct. 1, motorists using Ky. 15 near Hazard High School and the Hal Rogers Center should expect delays, as a month-long paving project gets underway.
The asphalt pavement on the northbound lanes of Ky. 15 at the Business Ky. 15 intersection will be replaced with concrete pavement. Contractors will also be removing the support piers and approaches for the former pedestrian bridge at this location, which collapsed in 2006 after being struck by an overheight vehicle.
The work is expected to continue through the month of October.
Lane closures will be effect during the project, and delays are likely. Drivers should slow down as they approach this construction zone and watch for stopped traffic. Motorists are asked to “Drive Smart” in this and all other work zones and be aware of workers, traffic control devices and construction equipment when traveling in these and other areas where projects are ongoing.
