This weekend, the Hazard Bulldogs traveled to Middlesboro for a soccer game. The Bulldogs and the Yellowjackets finished in a 1-1 tie at Hazard, and the Bulldogs were looking to finish with a win this time around.
Hazard scored just three minutes into the game as Spencer Hansen sent a long punt downfield leading Gary Kilburn to a breakaway. Kilburn was able to finish for the 1-0 lead.
However, it was Middlesboro that finished off the half with a pair of goals. The Yellowjackets went into the break with the 2-1 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the game nine minutes into the second half as Stevie Shepherd sent a long pass into the defense. Gary Kilburn picked up the ball and deposited in the net for the tie (2-2). The tie would not last long as Middlesboro scored two goals in two minutes (4-2).
At the 65 minute mark, Hazard was awarded an indirect kick on a foul just outside the box. Justin Combs tapped the ball to Gary Kilburn, who was able to find the back of the net for his third goal on the night. Middlesboro finished the scoring with a goal late, setting the final score at 5-3.
Gary Kilburn finished the game with three goals, leaving him one shy of the Bulldogs’ single season record with two games remaining.
