On Thursday, the Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Letcher Central Cougars on soccer action. On the line, the number one seed in district play.
The first half proved to be a defensive struggle as the game went to the half scoreless. Things picked up early in the second half as Perry Central’s Dylan Wooton battled the Cougar defense for a one-on-one shot at the goalie. The shot went in, giving the Commodores the 1-0 lead.
The Commodores continued to dominate play, but a strong hustling play by the Cougars tied the game. Neither team could score down the stretch, and it went to overtime to settle the issue.
There was no score in either of the overtime periods, and the game went to a shootout. Perry Central’s Logan Spencer opened with a goal, and when Letcher Central’s shot was stopped by Tyler Holland. The Commodores had the 1-0 lead. Dylan Wooton added goal number two, but was countered by the Cougars (2-1). Chris Saylor put Perry Central up 3-1, and when the next two Cougars missed, the Commodores collected the 2-1 win.
