HAZARD — A Perry County woman was recently arrested for allegedly stabbing her ex-husband.

Samantha Lee Coots, 30, of Vicco, was in an argument with her ex-husband and current fiancé, Fred Coots, just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 15, at a residence in Montgomery Creek, according to an arrest citation filed by the Kentucky State Police.

That’s when she was alleged to have stabbed Fred Coots in the abdomen while he was walking out of the door of the residence. He was taken to Hazard ARH before being transferred to The University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Samantha was arrested by Kentucky State Police Detective Randy Combs and charged with first-degree assault. She was arraigned on Oct. 19 in Perry District Court, and is set to appear Tuesday, Oct. 30 for a preliminary hearing, at which time her case could be sent to the grand jury for consideration of an indictment.

She is currently being held on a $10,000 cash bond at the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
