JEFF – Two people were killed Thursday in a violent collision on Ky. 15 just south of Hazard.
The victims were identified as 77-year-old Reba Amburgey of Knott County and 20-year-old April Robinson of Hazard, who were in separate vehicles at the time of the crash. A male, identified as James Hudson, was airlifted for treatment at a trauma center.
The crash happened after 2 p.m. on Thursday when a Chevrolet Aveo was traveling north toward Hazard. That's when a Toyota Camry apparently crossed the centerline and collided with the Chevrolet, according to the press release from Kentucky State Police.
“I watched it happen, and it was the most horrific sound and look, smoke flying,” said one witness, who asked not to be named but did give a statement to police.
Several agencies responded to the scene and the roadway was closed for nearly two hours before reopening just after 4 p.m.
Authorities have not released any further information at this time, but say they will issue a release when more details become available.
