On Saturday, The Willard Lady Warhawks and the Robinson Lady Bluejays hit the floor in the 8th grade girls’ Perry County tournament. The Lady Warhawks narrowly escaped a late rally by the Lady Blulejays to move on in the tournament.
Things got off to a slow start as the two teams traded baskets. Willard eventually pulled away 8-4 by the end of the first quarter.
Willard continued to control the tempo in the second period, and continued to hold the lead. Going into the locker room, the Lady Warhawks held the 16-9 advantage.
The Lady Warhawks pushed the margin to double digits in the third period. With six minutes left to play, Willard was on top 28-15.
Things started to fall for Robinson in the final period, and little by little they began to chip away at the lead. Late in the period, Robinson was within a “3” of the lead. Willard went three of 16 from the line during the quarter, but still managed to pull out the 31-27 win.
