The opening night of the 6th grade tournament concluded with the Willard Warhawks and the Robinson Blue Jays. The Blue Jays took the early lead, but could not hold off a late rally by the Warhawks.
The Blue Jays were off and running with the tip and quickly built a small lead. Willard put together a late rally, but still came up short 9-5 at the horn.
Robinson continued to pour it on early in the second period, and midway through held the 14-7 lead. At that point, Willard went on a run that would tie the game at 14 (this became the halftime score).
Willard picked up the defensive pressure in the third period, and began to turn some turnovers into transition baskets. The Warhawks ended the period with the 22-18 lead.
Robinson was unable to crack the Willard pressure in the fourth period, thus they could not get a comeback rally started. Willard was able to hold on, and moved into the second round with the 30-20 win.
Willard (30) Dalton Baker 3, Logan Stidham 10, Andrew Bush 5, Derek Wooton 10 and A. J. Miller 2.
Robinson (20) Nick Sebastian 6, Baylor Campbell 3, Dalton Grigsby 3, Chase Williams 4, Cameron Turner 2 and R. Smith 2.
