Myrtle Combs Hayes, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 27 at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1922 in Perry County to the late Richmond and Melissa Combs, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Hayes; brother Andy Combs; and sisters Angeline Combs, Alene Snyder, and Goldie Combs.
She is survived by nieces and nephews Michael Combs and Ima Gene Neace, both of Hazard, Zendell Combs of Knott County, and Shirley Patrick Reed, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30 with Willie Wagers and Merrill David Collins officiating at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home Chapel of Hazard. The family will receive friends for visitation between the hours of 6 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The Riverside Cemetery located in Hazard is the place of burial.
