On Sunday, the Hazard Bulldogs took part in the freshman’s 54th district tournament. The Bulldogs took down the Perry Central Commodores 56-53 in the opening round, and then defeated the Leslie County Eagles 52-39 in the championship game.
The Bulldogs took a hard-fought win in the opening round as they defeated the Commodores. The Bulldogs held a 12-10 lead at the end of the first period, and went into the half with the 28-21 advantage. Perry Central came back in the second half, with Hazard’s lead being 37-33 at the end of three. The Commodores tied the score late in the game, but the Bulldogs went on to take the 56-53 win.

In the championship game, Hazard had little trouble dispatching of Leslie County. The game was close in the first half, with the Bulldogs holding the 13-10 lead after one, and the 25-21 advantage at the half.
The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the third period (39-33), but quickly put the game on ice in the fourth quarter. Hazard went on to win the title by the final count of 52-39.
