Cordia guard Emmanuel Owootoah scored 15 points to go with 10 assists as the Lions ran past the Jackson City Tigers 87-30 Thursday during senior night.
Cordia had little trouble with the Tigers, scoring enough points in the first quarter to win the game as they built a 22-point lead after the first period, and went into the half leading 61-17. The continuous clock went into motion to open the second half, and the Lions cruised to the 87-30 win. Junior guard A.J. Tagaloa led Cordia in scoring with 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting from the field.
Cordia improved to 17-7 on the season, and will hit the road Friday to play one of the 14th Region’s top teams in the Perry Central Commodores. The teams have not met this season. The Commodores, coming off a road loss to Clay County on Wednesday, currently sit at 21-7.
Owootoah, meanwhile, continues to garner interest from Division I college programs this week, with the University of Kentucky being the latest as Assistant Coach Orlando Antigua was in attendance during Thursday’s game. Coaches from five more programs, Kansas, UCLA, Alabama, Southern Mississippi, and Seton Hall, are expected to be in attendance during the Lions’ match-up with Perry Central on Friday. Coaches from Morehead State and Tennessee have also watched Owootoah play this season.
