HAZARD — A Perry County man is facing charges related to allegedly having sexual intercourse with his niece.
Johnny L. Melton, 42, of Hazard, was arrested by the Kentucky State Police last month in Winchester for custodial interference, according to court records, and his juvenile, blood-related niece was in his presence at the time of arrest.
After being separated from her uncle, the juvenile told police Melton had taken her to the Daniel Boone Motor Inn in Hazard and had sexual intercourse with her on more than one occasion.
Trooper Billy Pollard wrote in the arrest citation that he had interviewed Melton on May 5 at the KSP Post 13 about the allegations.
“During the interview, Johnny Melton stated he did have sexual intercourse with the juvenile on more than one occasion,” Pollard wrote.
Melton faces one count of incest, forcible compulsion/incapable of consent/under 18, a Class B felony that carries a 10-20 year sentence. He is being held at the Kentucky River Regional Jail with a $50,000 bond. His trial is set for July 9.
