Charles Elmer Meade, Sr., 85, of Hazard, died Wednesday, May 22 at the University of Kentucky medical center in Lexington.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked at Pet Dairy Company for 23 years, and for Falcon Coal Company for 15 years. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Roscoe F. Meade and the late Rosie Sturgill Meade.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Meade; daughter Tammy Meade Hanlon and husband Chip of Hazard; son Charles E. Meade, Jr. and wife Mary Frances of Lexington; grandchildren Briget Meade Whitaker, Charles E. Meade III, and Brittany Hanlon Mitchell; great-grandchildren Hannah Whitaker, Allison Whitaker, Natalie Whitaker, Mallory Mitchell, and Megan Mitchell; and a host of family and friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 24. Services will immediately follow with Dr. Daryl Cornett and Rev. Ron Sholar officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Jeff.
