A multi-fatality car crash in Perry County has left three dead and caused a section of Ky. Highway 15 to shut down for around three hours Wednesday afternoon.
Trooper Jody Sims with the Kentucky State Police said the two-car collision happened just after 1 p.m. at the entrance of Tenmile Creek on Hwy. 15, just before the Perry-Breathitt line.
Sims said after speaking to witnesses who had been at the scene at the time of the incident and from examining the positions of the vehicles, investigators were able to determine that a tan Ford Contour was headed southbound on Hwy. 15 toward Hazard when it apparently crossed into the northbound lane and struck a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup.
“Based on the positions of the vehicles they’ve been able to determine it happened on the northbound shoulder,” Sims added.
Killed in the crash were William and Lily Belcher, who were inside the pickup. Danny Caudill, who police say was in the Ford at the time of the crash, was also pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person identified as Billy J. Caudill sustained injuries and was airlifted to the UK hospital in Lexington for treatment.
