Hazard rolls over Breathitt in season opener

The Hazard Lady Bulldogs kicked off their 2013 volleyball season with a match at Breathitt County. The Lady Bulldogs swept the night, taking the freshman, JV, and varsity matches.

The Freshman team had little trouble with the Lady Bobcats, taking the night 2-0. Hazard won the first game easily 21-6, and followed it up with a 21-8 win for the sweep.

Freshman stats: Brianna Sparkman 6 assists and 6 aces, Madison Gadbury 2 kills and 4 aces, Hope Clark 3 kills, 1 assist and 6 aces, Marryn Mobelini 4 aces, Kaeley Deaton 4 kills and 6 aces, and Dominique Carter 1 kill.

The JV match was a little more difficult as it would take three games to settle. Hazard took the first game 21-17, but gave up game two by the final count of 21-13. In the third game, the Lady Bulldogs got back on track, and took the match with a 21-16 win of game three.

JV stats: Brianna Sparkman 5 assists and 4 aces, Madison Gadbury 3 kills, 1 dig, 3 assists and 7 aces, Hope Clark 6 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces, Marryn Mobelini 1 kill, 1 assist and 1 ace, Kaeley Deaton 3 kills and 3 aces, Dominique Carter 1 kill and Cydnee Dawhare 1 dig.

Hazard got off to a great start in the first game of the varsity session, winning by the score of 25-12. The Lady Bulldogs would not let up, winning game two by the final score of 25-14, and the third 25-13. Hazard was able to sweep the night 3-0.

Varsity stats: Sarah Pratt 17 assists and 1 ace, Maddison Niece 8 kills and 9 aces, Hope Clark 7 kills, 1 assist and 6 aces, Andrea Stidham 3 kills and 1 assist, Marjorie Hammonds 9 kills and 1 ace, Ashleigh Bryant 1 kill and 2 aces, and Brinkley Chitwood 2 digs and 1 ace.
