The Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Shelby Valley Wildcats in their season opener last Monday, and had little trouble with the Wildcats as they scored five goals in each half, with the mercy rule taking effect to bring an end to the contest.

CJ Smith opened the game with an early goal. Smith took a touch from Zac Combs and pushed it past the goalie. Zac Combs would then step up and collect the next goal as he flicked the ball over the goalies’ head and rushed past him for the header (2-0).

Midway through the half, Logan Spencer took a pass from Dagen Combs and lobbed it over the goalie for the 3-0 advantage. Minutes later Zac Combs posted goal number two as he took on the goalie one-on-one (4-0). The half ended after Jacob Farris beat the Wildcat defense to bring the tally to 5-0.

Brandon Wooton scored the first two goals of the second half. Wooton got an assist on the first from Logan Spencer (6-0), and went solo on the second (7-0).

Bradley Colwell brought the score to 8-0 with a quick hit on the defense that found the far post. Later, Zac Combs completed his hat-trick as he took a pass at the top of the box and split the defenders for the 9-0 lead.

Jake Mullis scored the final goal of the game after Brecken Harvey found him cutting to the goal. Mullis finished the play with a shot just outside the reach of the goalie. The 10-0 score ended the game via the “mercy rule.”
