HAZARD – A Chavies man was sentenced to serve six years in prison after admitting to raping and sodomizing a girl in 2012.

Samuel Stamper, 37, appeared in Perry Circuit Court on Thursday for sentencing on charges of third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, third-degree sex abuse, and prohibited use of an electronic system to procure a minor.

According to the indictment returned in February, Stamper had engaged in sexual contact with the female, who was less than 16 years of age, between May and December 2012, and also used electronic communication that promoted the use of a minor in sexual activity.

He pleaded guilty to the charges last month in exchange for a maximum sentence of six years in prison.

The victim’s father was also in the courtroom this week, though he declined to comment other than to say he wanted to get the case over with and see Stamper in prison.

In addition to his prison term, Stamper will be required to complete a sex offender rehabilitation program, and register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
