The Perry Middle School Commodores took on Whitesburg Middle School last week in football action. The Commodores jumped out to the early lead, and held on for the 22-12 win.
Perry Middle scored easily on their first possession, keeping the ball on the ground. Corey Smith finished off the drive with a 26-yard touchdown run through the defense. Matt Francis ran in the conversion for the 8-0 lead.
Colton Walker took the ball away from Whitesburg Middle on the ensuing possession, jumping on a fumble. The turnover led to a three-yard Braxton Whitaker run. The conversion failed, setting the score at 14-0.
Whitesburg Middle scored in the second period, but failed on the conversion. This put the Commodore lead at 14-6. The score would hold until the fourth quarter.
Corey Smith found the end zone for the second time in the fourth quarter (four-yard run), and Jacob Woolum carried in the conversion (22-6). Whitesburg Middle would collect another touchdown, but could not pull off the comeback bid (22-12).
