The Perry Middle School Commodores hosted the Hazard Middle School Bulldogs in football action on Tuesday. The Commodores jumped out to the early lead, and never looked back as they collected the win.
The Commodores opened the game with the first touchdown. Jacob Woolum hit Braxton Whitaker on a pass play that covered 37 yards. Woolum then ran in the conversion for the 8-0 lead.
After a strong defensive stand, Perry Middle struck again, this time on an 11-yard run by Corey Smith. Braxton Whitaker ran in the conversion, boosting the lead to 16-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, Hazard’s Bailey Blair ran 79 yards through the Perry Middle defense for the score. The conversion failed, setting the score at 16-6.
The Commodores scored a pair of touchdowns in the second period as well. They started with a 43-yard pass from Jacob Woolum to Ronnie Long. Woolum added the conversion (24-6). The second came on a three-yard run by Corey Smith. The touchdown came after a Colton Walker fumble recovery (30-6).
The final touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter, and belonged to Perry Middle. Jacob Woolum broke off a 41-yard run down the sideline. The conversion failed, setting the final tally at 36-6.
