Band of Gold to perform in state semis

Marching band season is again in full swing, and the Hazard High School Band of Gold has been hard at work and will perform in state competition this weekend.


The band competed at the Cumberland Falls Marching Invitational at Corbin on Sept. 28, placing first in Class A, best percussion in Class A, along with best color guard and the Mayor’s trophy — third place overall.


The band then traveled to the Pulaski County Invitational on Oct. 5, where they placed fifth overall, but captured first in Class A competition, and first in percussion and color guard.


On Oct. 12 the band competed at the Mason County Band Classic in Maysville. The band placed first in Class A, best overall music, best overall music effect, best overall visual, grand championship, and received a distinguished rating.


This past weekend, on Oct. 19, the band competed at the KMEA/SMBC Class A East Regional at Madison Southern High School in Berea. They placed second overall with a distinguished rating and advanced to the state semifinals on Oct. 26 at Butler High School in Louisville. the band will perform at 1:15 p.m. The top four bands will advance to the state finals that evening at Papa John’s Stadium in Louisville.
