The Perry County Central Lady Commodores took to the soccer field last week against the Hazard Lady Bulldogs. The winner of this game would advance to the 53rd district championship, while the loser would end their season on a sour note.
The two teams battled for the majority of the first period before anyone would score. The Lady Commodores got on the board first as Kelsey Lowe took a pass from Courtney Lowe and deposited it in the net. Perry Central’s Lowe would later put the Lady Commodores up 2-0 with another goal, this time the assist would go to Dallas Coots.
Hazard cut the margin to 2-1 late in the first half. Drew Baker stepped in front of a Tiffany Combs pass, and quickly beat the Lady Commodore goalie for the score.
The second half would see the Lady Commodores stretch the lead to 5-1, putting the game virtually out of reach. Coots put Perry Central up 3-1 off the assist by Brooke Campbell. Campbell would later set the score at 4-1 with a solo goal.
Coots got the final Perry Central goal off a touch pass from Kelsey Lowe. The goal gave the Lady Commodores the 5-1 lead.
Hazard scored the game’s final goal. After a foul in the box, Drew Baker connected on the penalty kick, giving her two goals on the night, and setting the final count at 5-2.
The win put the Lady Commodores in the championship game against Letcher Central. Things did not go well for Perry Central in the finals as they fell 6-0 to the Lady Cougars.
Hazard (2) Drew Baker 2 goals, and Tiffany Combs 1 assist.
Perry Central (5) Brooke Campbell 1 goal and 2 assist, Dallas Coots 2 goals and 1 assist, Kelsey Lowe 2 goals and 1 assist, and Courtney Noyes 1 assist.
