The Hazard Lady Bulldogs and the Leslie County Lady Eagles took to the volleyball floor last week for the 14th region title. The Lady Bulldogs got the better of the Lady Eagles in the 54th district tournament, and were looking to use a win here to move on to their first state volleyball tournament.

With the district loss still fresh on their minds, the Lady Eagles came out firing in game one. Hazard was unable to keep pace down the stretch, and Leslie County notched the 25-17 win in game one.

Hazard was able to refocus for game two and came out ready to set the tone. The Lady Bulldogs were able to catch the Lady Eagles off guard, and went on to the 25-15 win.

Both teams put their best effort on the floor for game three. Neither team was able to garner a sizable lead, but in the end it was Hazard that took the win 25-22.

The back-and-forth play continued in the fourth game. Hazard built a small lead late in the game, but Leslie County came storming back. The Lady Eagles needed a score to tie the game, but the Lady Bulldogs put the ball away at the net to take the win 25-23.

The 3-1 win gave Hazard their first region title, and trip to the state tournament. The Lady Bulldogs will play Oldham County in the opening round.
