The Hazard Lady Bulldogs had to be the favorite to win the 14th region volleyball tournament as play started last week. The Lady Bulldogs were the only 14th region team to defeat the Letcher Central Lady Cougars ever (Hazard defeated Letcher Central four times during the regular season).

The Lady Bulldogs would begin their quest for their first ever trip to the state tournament with the Wolfe County Lady Wolves. This would not be the Lady Bulldogs’ toughest challenge of the tournament as they took the win in three games.

Hazard started game one on fire and never looked back, cruising to the 25-15 win.

Things would not change in the second game as they duplicated the previous score. The second win sucked the wind out of the Lady Wolves’ sails, and Hazard would make quick work of them in the third game 25-7.

The 3-0 win put the Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals where they would take on the Letcher Central Lady Cougars.

Hazard stats: Sarah Pratt 5 kills, 29 assists and 4 aces, Maddison Niece 6 kills and 4 aces, Hope Clark 14 kills, 1 block and 4 aces, Marjorie Hammonds 12 kills and 3 aces, and Ashleigh Bryant 2 kills and 1 ace.
