After a long tournament, the 6th grade championship came down to the R. W. Combs Lady Mustangs and the Leatherwood Lady Wildcats. After a brief to-and-fro, the Lady Mustangs asserted themselves and galloped to the title 45-28.
In the early going, the Lady Wildcats were able to match intensity with the Lady Mustangs. However, at the end of the first quarter, R. W. Combs put together a couple of baskets to give them the 12-9 lead at the horn.
R. W. Combs began to pull away in the second period, eventually notching a double-digit lead. Going into the break, the Lady Mustangs held the 27-16 lead.
Scoring dropped off in the third period, but R. W. Combs managed to add to their lead. The Lady Wildcats found themselves at a 37-22 disadvantage going into the final period.
Leatherwood would not be able to erase their deficit in the final frame, allowing R. W. Combs to claim the championship with the 45-28 win.
