The domestic violence program at LKLP got a holiday boost last week from employees at the Hampton Inn of Hazard.
Lois Valentine, program director for LKLP, accepted the $320 donation on Thursday, which she noted will go toward to treating residents of the domestic violence shelter who have children to a shopping spree for Christmas. She added donations like these are a boost to the program, especially in difficult times.
“It’s wonderful to have the community support,” Valentine said. “We’re limited, and haven’t had a raise in the budget in several years, so we’re bursting at the seams. The community stepping in to help with Christmas makes it very special for the residents of the shelter. We really appreciate it.”
Mary Combs, with the Hampton Inn, said the hotel’s employees raised the money by selling baked goods and a raffle on holiday wreaths. This year marked the second year they have donated funds to the program, and Combs said they expect to make it an annual effort.
