HAZARD—A two-vehicle collision halted traffic in the eastbound lane of the Carl D. Perkins Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

Officer Joe Engle with the Hazard Police Department said the accident occurred just before 12 p.m. after a white Ford Focus and a blue SUV collided when the Focus attempted to make a U-turn.

“Both vehicles was travelling westbound on Highway 80, and the Ford Focus was in the right lane and the SUV was in the passing lane … they were sort of side by side. Well, the Ford Focus went to do a U-turn to get to Wal-Mart and she cut over into the SUV and they lost control and then went into the guardrail of the other lane,” Engle explained.

Engle said no other vehicles were involved and there were no serious injuries, though the passengers of the Focus and the driver of the SUV were taken to the Hazard ARH with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Engle added that no charges would be pressed against anyone involved, even though U-turns are illegal in the state, because no officer saw the infraction happen.
