HAZARD- Residents of communities in Perry County now have a new way to contact local law enforcement if they have any tips about possible criminal activity.
The Perry County Sheriff’s Office has implemented an email tip line for Perry County residents, Deputy Jerry Burns said.
Burns said the tip line can be used for residents to report suspicious activity, request additional patrols, and to report the location of individuals who have an active warrant.
“Anything at all that they want to tell us about-any drug complaints, if they need any extra patrol, anything that we need to know to look for they can email us,” Burns said.
Burns went on to say that the office depends on tips and information from the public in order to catch perpetrators and solve cases that would otherwise go unsolved for weeks.
“Sheriff Burgett is wanting everybody to call us if they need extra patrol, anything going on whatsoever, give us a call because that’s how we know what’s going on in a certain area,” Burns stated, adding that now there will be two ways for citizens to contact the office.
Burns reported that county residents can still call the Perry County Sheriff’s Office during business hours, but can now reach the department 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This gives citizens a way to report non-emergency activities after hours instead on calling 911, or having to wait until the next day when details of the incident may have already been forgotten.
Burns said there would be an officer dedicated to monitoring the email.
The tip line email address for the Perry County Sheriff’s Department is email@example.com, and is currently open.
