Crossfit, the newest fitness regime, has made its way into the heart of local athletes. Crossfit Distance opened its doors on Keith Miller Drive in Hazard last year, and has since made a large impact on the community as well as its members. Crossfit Distance set up a weight station at the Black Gold Festival, where they hosted a Lift-A-Thon to benefit the Scott Blank Foundation. Johnathan Scott Blank was a local athlete who was loved by many in the community. Blank passed at only 19 years old.

15 athletes participated in the Lift-A-Thon; each held an hour long time slot to lift as much weight as they possibly bare. The athletes acquired sponsers who could either donate a lump sum, or an amount per pound the athlete lifted. Together, the team lifted 226,045 lbs over the course of two days. The money raised for the Scott Blank Foundation will provide schoalrship funds for local high school student-athletes to attain a higher education.
