PIKEVILLE — The community is invited to join the University of Pikeville for a concert featuring four-hand pianists Dana Muller and Gary Steigerwalt. Four-hand piano is a type of piano duet in which the two players play on a single piano. The concert will be held Monday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m., in Chrisman Auditorium.
The concert will feature classical selections from a variety of composers including Felix Mendelssohn, Paul Hindemith and Alfredo Casella.
The husband-wife team has been performing the four-hand piano repertoire for more than 25 years, creating programs that encompass the historical and stylistic range of the genre. They have performed extensively in the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest United States, as well as in Scotland, Argentina and Bolivia.
Muller and Steigerwalt perform regularly with Wistaria Chamber Music Society. They have appeared as four-hand recitalists at the Beethoven Festival, Oyster Bay, Long Island, presenting the complete four-hand works of Beethoven, and at summer festivals such as the Bethlehem Musikfest (Pennsylvania), Music at Penn Alps (Maryland), and the Sevenars Festival and Musicorda Festival (Massachusetts). Orchestral appearances include the Pennsylvania Sinfonia (North American premiere of Jan Mul’s Concerto for Piano Four-Hands and Chamber Orchestra), Orchestra New England, Mesquite (Texas) Symphony Orchestra and the Pioneer Valley Symphony.
Steigerwalt has been on the music faculty at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts since 1981 and earned his doctor of music from Juilliard School of Music. Muller has both a doctor of musical arts degree and a juris doctorate degree and is a licensed attorney in Arizona, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The Nov. 23 performance is free to the community. For more information, call (606) 218-5270.
