BUCKHORN — The Buckhorn Lodge, located in Perry County’s Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park, will be catering to couples once again this year over the course of the Valentine’s Day weekend. Last year, the lodge hosted a mystery theater and dinner event, which attracted rave reviews from an impressive crowd despite wintry weather. This year the Buckhorn Lodge has planned what it refers to as “a variety of fun filled sweetheart activities.”
Two key elements to the Buckhorn Lodge’s romantic getaway appeal are location and accomodation. Since the lodge is positioned on Buckhorn Lake in the northern section of Perry County’s Appalachian Mountains, the ambiance of a true getaway from hustle and bustle is created not only for travelers from abroad but also for local citizens, who might want to make a weekend escape away from the norm but do not have the time or budget to whisk off on a long journey. With cabins and rooms available, the getaway can consume the entire weekend as opposed to a singular date, which lasts for only one evening. The Buckhorn Lodge is offering special packages for a two-night stay on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb 13.
There is a package for the event that includes two nights lodging in one of the spacious lodge rooms for Friday and Saturday night, along with the Saturday night dinner buffet and special entertainment. The price for couples desiring to indulge in this package is $155 per couple. A variety of fun filled sweetheart activities are planned for the weekend, which include the Not-so-Newly Wed Game and Saturday evening entertainment. Those who prefer a single night out as opposed to an entire weekend escape also have a package available to them for $69, which includes the Saturday night buffet and special entertainment only. This package will be offered from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. A portion of the profits from the packages will be donated to the Corner Haven homeless shelter in Hazard.
Also on Saturday morning the park will be participating in the Great American Backyard Bird Count from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Teams will get a count of birds they see in their designated area of the park. Participants should bring binoculars with them. A limited number of field guides and a checklist will be provided by the park. There will also be opportunities to gain insights about the bird populations.
