PIKEVILLE – In the face of regional economic problems, Pikeville Medical Center is pleased to announce that effective March 6 it will be increasing salaries at the hospital. The hospital’s minimum wage rate will be increased from $9 per hour to $10.05 per hour (the federal minimum wage rate is $7.25 per hour). Additionally, all of the remaining employees will receive a three percent increase.
The only group that will not be receiving a raise is Senior Management.
The raises for employees will cost almost $6 million annually. This action comes at a time when other healthcare organizations across the country are struggling financially. Layoffs and downsizing are now common in the industry.
President/CEO Walter E. May said, “While other healthcare organizations are cutting back and laying off employees, PMC continues to grow. We could not continue in a positive direction and provide quality care without the dedication of our 2,600 employees. We thank them for their loyalty and continuing service to PMC and our patients.”
