HAZARD — A special flag raising was held on the morning of March 29 to honor Vietnam Veterans from our region. The flag raising took place at the ARH Medical Mall, which is part of the Black Gold Shopping Center in Hazard.

A special reception followed the flag raising ceremony. Members of the community joined veterans to thank them for their service to our country. Cake and refreshments were served inside the Medical Mall.

The flag at the Black Gold Shopping Center had flown for a long time, through every season and all different types of weather. It was worn and ready for retirement on the day it finally descended the pole for the final time. Now, a new flag waves, ready to represent the patriotism that is associated with Perry County, and help express the pride and gratitude we feel for our veterans.
