MELVIN – Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt and deputies executed a search warrant in the community of Melvin at a residence owned by Bernita Hunter on Wednesday evening. Members of the community alerted the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office about items being stolen in and around the Melvin and alleged drug activity at the residence.
“This search warrant came as a result of an investigation into illegal drug trafficking and also as some allegations of some stolen property ending up here by possibly being traded for drugs,” said Hunt.
Upon arrival at the home, two gentlemen were sitting on the front porch. Police deputies entered the home along with the canine unit. Police searched the home and several vehicles parked at the home. Deputies discovered several items believed to be stolen and also a bag of blue pills, a cell phone and passport belonging to Hunter.
Kim Wolford, formally of Phelps, was arrested on drug trafficking charges and transported to the Floyd County Detention Center.
“This investigation comes from our tip line, it’s a very hot topic from the community and people calling about this residence,” said Hunt.
Deputies will go through all the evidence and items found at the residence and take photos and record serial numbers of everything. If you believe any of the items may be yours, please contact the Sheriff’s Office to schedule a time to identify the item.
“We encourage everyone to brand items with engravers and record serial numbers in case you are the victim of a burglary. We want to thank the community for their help on the tip line,” said Hunt. “People need to know, if your in the business of selling dope you need to get out, because you could be next.”
This investigation is still underway and other arrests may be made.
