HAZARD—Police have one man behind bars this week after he allegedly threatened employees as the Hazard ARH Medical Center earlier today.
According to the Hazard Police Department (HDP), officers responded to a complaint at the hospital, located on Medical Drive in Hazard, regarding a threat just after 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
Terry Newman, 54, of Richmond, reportedly arrived at the Hazard ARH, pulled a knife out, and made “threats of violence” toward people at the hospital.
ARH enacted lock-down procedures to protect its patients, staff, and the public.
“Newman then went inside of ARH to the fourth floor, where he was subsequently located by officers and arrested,” an HPD release reads.
Minimal force was used to arrest Newman, according to the release, and the facility returned to normal procedures once the arrest was made.
Newman has been charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, and resisting arrest, and was also served with an active warrant of arrest.
“We appreciate ARH’s timely response to this complaint and resolution,” the release reads.
