HAZARD — Mayor Jimmy Lindon signed a proclamation on Thursday, which officially declares April as Autism Awareness Month in Hazard. Issac Whitaker and Sharon Whitaker from the Autism Support Group of Perry County were present during the signing.
The Autism Support Group’s annual Autism Awareness Funday will be April 30 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Sherman Neace Athletic Center. The event usually takes place at Hazard High School’s football field, but due to rain, the event has been moved. There will be games, food, music and activities. More information can be found by searching Autism Support Group of Perry County on Facebook.
According to the CDC, autism effects one out of every 68 children in the United States. By signing an official proclamation, Mayor Lindon has pledged full support from the City of Hazard for autism awareness.
