Election 2016: Steele and Rogers win


Sanders wins Perry County. Statewide votes still being counted.

HAZARD — On election night, Fitz Steele won another term as State Representative of District 84. Steele finished with 2,587 votes, which equals 68 percent of the overall tally. The challenger, Kenneth Hall, gained 1,196 votes for 32 percent.

Bernie Sanders carried Perry County in the Democratic Presidential race by an impressive number; 59.65 percent of the total vote. Hillary Clinton trailed Sanders in second place by a large margin. Clinton received 839 votes in Perry County for 30.4 percent. At the time of publication, votes are still being counted statewide. The Hazard Herald will give an update later on the Commonwealth as a whole.

Jim Gray will face-off against Rand Paul in November for a seat representing Kentucky in the United States Senate. Hal Rogers has won his 19th election in a row in the race for United States Congressman of Kentucky’s fifth district.
