HAZARD – A house fire destroyed the home of a local photographer in the early morning hours Sunday.
The home of Cordis Bishop and his wife, Doris, was heavily damaged in the fire. No one was injured, according to reports from the Jackes Branch, Hazard and Avawam fire departments.
All three local fire departments responded to the fire.
Reports indicate that the home caught fire some time during the night, alerting the family enough to get out of the dwelling and contact the fire department. Firefighters worked the early morning hours to keep the fire from spreading out of the attic. The home, however, suffered heavy damage.
Bishop, a longtime photographer, has often had pictures published in The Hazard Herald.
For now, Bishop, his wife, and his stepson are staying with family members. Investigators have yet to determine how the fire started.
