LOST CREEK —Kentucky State Police have confirmed that a wreck involving a police cruiser and a motorcycle took the life of a Perry County man Thursday evening. The crash occurred in the Lost Creek community of Perry County. Doug Miller, age 49 of Dice, was killed in the collision according to Perry County Deputy Coroner, John Collett.

Miller had a passenger on the motorcycle with him when the wreck happened. Karen Amburgey, age 35 of Hazard, was flown to Pikeville Medical Center. Kentucky State Police report that Amburgey’s injuries are not life threatening.

Jeremy Moore of Kentucky State Police was the trooper involved in the crash. Moore was transported to Hazard ARH and later released with minor injuries.

Emergency crews were already at work on Lost Creek Rd., tending to an ATV accident, which produced minor injuries to the driver, when the call went out for assistance with the crash involving Miller. The emergency responders were challenged with the task of establishing a suitable landing zone for transport of Amburgey, which they were able to do. Trooper Moore was on duty at the time of the incident.

According to Kentucky State Police, a preliminary investigation of this collision determined that Trooper Moore, who was driving a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling north on Lost Creek Rd., observing for a reported ATV in the area with a possible intoxicated driver. Trooper Moore encountered a sudden, narrow, right curve in the road with no visible center line, at which time Trooper Moore’s cruiser collided with a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Miller.

Doug Miller was a member of the Fallen Kings in Hazard. Thursday night, the Fallen Kings made a post on their Facebook timeline to send prayers out to Miller’s family and announce that they had lost a beloved friend.
