Local farmers serve city ‘Main Course’

Guests who attended “The Main Course: A Farm to Table Experience” over the weekend toasted during the event after it was announced that the Perry County Farmers’ Market—which was benefiting from the event—had been able to put more than $20,000 back into the local economy in just the first month of it being open this year.

Volunteers helped prepare and serve dishes made almost entirely of locally sourced food for the multi-course meal.

Around 60 people were fed at the event on Saturday night, with ticket sales adding roughly $2,500 to the Perry County Farmers’ Market’s budget for the year.

Volunteers Mae Humiston and Jason Brashear helped plate and serve the salad portion of the night’s meal.

Guests were treated to a gala-like atmosphere in the People’s Park on Main Street in downtown Hazard Saturday night.

Like music was provided by local musicians.

Jenny Williams, another volunteer, dished out the dessert course, which consisted of a berry tart.

Guests were able to finish the evening in the decorated park, talking and listening to the live music.
