VICCO — The City of Vicco is one step away from becoming the first municipality in Southeastern Kentucky to allow alcohol sales on Sunday since before the Prohibition of the 1920’s. At a special called meeting on July 12, the Vicco City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to lift the ban on Sunday sales. As is the case with all bills placed before local governments, a second reading of the resolution must be approved by City Council before the bill can become law. The second reading will occur at the Vicco City Council meeting scheduled for July 27 at 7:00 p.m.
This ordinance only applies to Vicco’s city limits. A similar ordinance has been discussed by the Perry County Fiscal Court. However, no resulotion has been presented before the Fiscal Court as of now.
The Vicco City Council’s approval of the ordinance on July 27 will officially make Sunday alcohol sales in Vicco legal. The Hazard Herald will have a full report on the City Council’s decision and the provisions of the ordinance following the July 27 meeting.
