LEXINGTON — Four officers from Perry County were honored this week in Lexington at the Governor’s Occupant Protection Enforcement Awards ceremony.

Officers were nominated by their department for having written the most citations for seat belts and child restraint violations.

The four law enforcement officers from this area that earned awards include: Perry County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Kevin Day, Hazard Police Department Patrolman Glenn Griffie, Kentucky State Police Trooper Jeff McWhorter from Post 13 and Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Lt. Nathaniel Day.

HPD Patrolman Griffie earned an additional Division 3 award. The award is given to officers who have written more citations than any other officer in a Division 3 agency.

A Division 3 agency is a law enforcement agency that employs between 26 – 50 officers.

In total, 146 officers from 125 law enforcement agencies from across the state were honored at the ceremony.
