HAZARD — The federal trial for two men accused in the death of Larry Trent at the Kentucky River Regional Jail has been set. Trent’s death occurred in 2013.

Last year, federal indictments were given to William Howell and Damon Hickman, both former deputy jailers at the Kentucky River Regional Jail. The indictments claim that excessive force by the two former deputy jailers and the denial of medical care resulted in Trent’s death. Obstruction of justice charges were also filed against Hickman.

These allegations will go before federal court this fall, with a verdict in the case being delivered. The trial begins Oct. 31.
