HAZARD — After a six month investigation by the Investigations Section of Hazard Police Department (HPD), the Perry County Grand Jury handed down 25 indictments on July 22 that accused several Hazard citizens of trafficking in a controlled substance.

HPD were able to serve 13 of those warrants on Monday during a drug roundup that took place around Perry County and one on Sunday, totalling 14 warrants served.

The investigations began back in February, with undercover HPD detectives and cooperating witnesses making controlled buys from the alleged drug dealers.

This is the first drug bust that HPD has done independently, instead of being part of a joint task force with other local law enforcement agencies.

“It was a huge success,” said Capt. Paul Campbell of the drug roundup.

One of the people arrested was a fill-in secretary at Warren Taylor’s Law Office.

HPD say Stephanie Sizemore, 48, of Hazard sold pills to a cooperating witness during a controlled buy.

Sizemore sold the pills inside the Law Offices of Warren Taylor, HPD say.

HPD say they have audio and video recordings of Sizemore selling the pills to a cooperating witness during the controlled buy.

She was arrested on Monday at her apartment above the law office, where she was currently living.

Sizemore had just finished showering and had answered the door in her bathrobe when she was arrested by HPD officers.

“What’s going on?” Sizemore kept asking the officers who were arresting her.

After being told of the audio and video recordings of her selling pills, HPD say Sizemore became quite and deathly pale.

She is charged with second-degree and first offense trafficking in a controlled substance and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Also arrested during the drug roundup were:

* Donna J. Gayheart, 45, is charged with third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

* Michael G. James, is charged with second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

“This is just the beginning.. this is just scratching the surface,” said Capt. Campbell of the drug roundup.

Campbell said HPD received complaints of drug activity within city limits almost everyday, “They (Hazard citizens) are fed up with it.”

He said that HPD is going after the suppliers to reduce the demand of drugs in Hazard.

“We pray that it makes a difference,” Campbell said.

Campbell said he was thankful for the support of the citizens of Hazard and grateful for the tips that they have given to HPD.

He also wanted to thank the detectives and officers who spend long hours working on the case and wanted the public to know how hard his team have worked on these investigations.
