HAZARD — Run for the Hills is an annual charity challenge organized by the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. Each year, between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31, non-profit groups in Perry County raise money to fund their projects and build their endowments as part of Run for the Hills. The money they raise during this time is then matched by the Foundation.
Participating non-profits provide services in the Perry County region, such as quality housing, medical care, literacy, arts education and programming, outdoor activities and development, economic development, STEM education, daycare, services for the homeless, care and support for animals, as well as youth leadership. The public can help by choosing to support specific non-profits with general donations or by contributing to events the non-profits organize during the Run for the Hills fund raising period.
Run for the Hills is also celebrated every fall with a 5k race held in downtown Hazard. Interested participants can register for the 5k race by September 7 to guarantee a T-shirt in the preferred size. The rate to participate is cheaper for teams registering in the 5k.
