CHAVIES — The annual Cameron Hoskins 5k/10k Run/Walk was held Aug. 20 in Chavies to benefit the Cameron Hoskins Foundation. The weather for the race was pleasant, and a large crowd turned out to support the cause.
The overall winners this year were: 10K Male – Brandon Gayheart; 10K Female- Haley Combs; 5K Male- Nick Combs; 5K Female- Mallory Combs.
According to the foundation’s website, The Cameron Hoskins Foundation was created after the untimely death of Cameron Taylor Hoskins on August 22, 2009. Cameron was a fun loving 12 year old little boy who loved his friends, family and had great love for the game of basketball. The family and friends of Cameron Hoskins, after his death, wanted to do something in his name to carry on what his life stood for, so they started the Cameron Hoskins Foundation to fund scholarships for graduating seniors in all Perry County High Schools. Each year the foundation funds students at Buckhorn High, Perry County Central High and Hazard High with a $1,000.00 scholarship to the post secondary school of their choice. The foundation also aides student athletes based on need in various different areas. Cameron loved life and his family and friends, and he would want to help anyone in need. The foundation’s goal is to carry on what Cameron would want, which is to help others.
