PERRY COUNTY — Multiple traffic accidents once again flooded news reports over the weekend and heading into the beginning of the work week. Two wrecks in Perry County involved a combined total of 10 vehicles.
The first occurred Saturday evening on Hwy. 15 near the entrance to Entertainment Drive north of Hazard. A car and an SUV collided head-on. One of the vehicles was carrying at least one child inside. A carseat was used and at last report no critical injuries were reported with the child. However, the crash was serious enough to shutdown traffic on Hwy. 15 for several hours, causing major delays. Motorists, who could do so, used alternate routes to bypass the scene. Residents of the Lost Creek community reported heavy traffic through the area, as a result of drivers looking for a detour from Hwy. 15 to Hwy. 80.
Hwy. 80 was shutdown late Monday night because of a collision too; this one involving 8 vehicles. The crash happened near the entrance to East Perry Elementary School.
Results of investigations into what caused the crashes are not available as of news time. Emergency crews working each scene did say that injuries were involved. However, no information about the extent of the injuries has been released. The names of the drivers have not been obtained by the Hazard Herald.
