Grand jury hands down indictments

HAZARD — The Perry County Grand Jury handed down indictments last week.

*Terry G. Newman, 55, of Viper was indicted this month on one count of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, one count of tampering with physical evidence, one count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and one count of second-degree persistent felony offender. Bail was set in the amount of $500,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Sammy Watts, 42, of Hazard was indicted on one count of public intoxication, one count of illegal possession of a legend drug, one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, one count of prescription drugs not in the proper container, one count of drug paraphernalia, and one count of second-degree possession of a controlled substance. Baill was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Ryan Cress, 32, of Vicco was indicted this month on one count of second-degree escape, one count of tampering with prisoner’s monitoring device and one count of first-degree bail jumping. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Robert Lyttle, 30, of Hazard was indicted on one count of second-degree escape and one count of tampering with prisoner’s monitoring device. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Samantha Thorpe, 35, of Hazard was indicted this month on one count of second-degree escape, one count of tampering with prisoner’s monitoring device and one count of theft by unlawful taking more than $500. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Opal Bradley Pollard, 41, of Bonnyman was indicted on one count of theft by unlawful taking more than $500. Bail was set in the amount of $5,000 cash plus MCR.

*David D. Lewis, 36, of Hazard was indicted this month on one count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felony and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Harold Hays, 35, of Bulan was indicted on one count of possession of a handgun by convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Jeffery Plowman and Sharon Plowman, both of Underwood, Indiana, were indicted this month on one count of third-degree burglary. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR in the case.

*Melvin Shane Gross, 31, and Cory Leason, 38, of Hazard were indicted on one count of theft by unlawful taking more than $500.

Leason has an additional count of complicity to commit burglary.

Gross is also indicted on third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree persistent felony offender.

Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Doyle Standafer, 29, of Hazard was indicted this month on one count of second-degree burglary and one count of second-degree persistent felony offender. Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Jennifer Warren, 35, of Hazard was indicted on one count of fraudulently obtaining public benefits. Bail was set in the amount of $250 cash plus MCR.

*Connie Fugate, 33, of Hazard was indicted this month one count of fraudulently use of ID card or electronic code for benefits. Bail was set in the amount of $5,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Justin L. Hollan, 27, of Jackson was indicted on one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance and one count of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set in the amount of $5,000 cash plus MCR.

*Jessica Jones, 31, of Hazard and Steven B. Jones, 29, of Hazard were indicted this month on one count of theft by unlawful taking more than $500 and first-degree fleeing or evading police.

Brock was indicted on an additional charge of first-degree persistent felony offender.

Bail was set in the amount of $10,000 cash plus home incarceration and MCR.

*Kathy Slover Whitaker, 49, of Hazard was indicted on two counts of fraudulently use of ID card or electronic code for benefits. Bail was set in the amount of $1,000 surety bond plus MCR.
