HAZARD — The Black Gold Festival is honoring police this year by designating law enforcement officials as Grand Marshals in the festival’s annual parade. Each year, during the Black Gold Festival, Hazard’s law enforcement works to make sure those visiting the festival are safe, while also continuing to police areas outside of the festival.

This year, the Black Gold Festival Parade will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 11:00 a.m. For those participating in the parade, lineup starts at 9:00 a.m. in the old Food Fair parking lot downtown.

The parade’s route begins at Pizza Hut on East Main Street and will travel across Memorial Drive onto North Main Street before finally coming to an end at Combs Motel. The parade will not travel through Main Street in front of the Courthouse.
