HAZARD — On the morning of Sept. 27, Hazard Police responded to a burglary at Lee’s Famous Recipe on East Main Street. Security cameras recorded footage of two suspects committing the crime.

Altogether, the robbery unfolded in about one minute. The burglars entered the business through a side door and caused no physical damage. Their primary target was a safe underneath the counter. The suspects appeared to know the exact location of the safe. They did not scavenge through the area. In fact, they passed up a cash register that was completely open on their way to the safe. Police say this robbery shows classic signs of being a pre-planned operation, with perhaps more people involved than merely the two captured by surveillance.

The thieves left the business with $300 in cash. The damage could have been much worse. Steps are being taken to ensure that the building is securer and even less cash is on site during closing hours.

HPD has released a photo showing the suspects. If you have any information that could lead to their identities, contact Hazard Police at 436-2222. You may also submit information through the Tip411 program by texting 847411 and putting HazardPD in the body of the text, or provide information online through the HazardPD app available from the Google Play or Apple app stores.
