HAZARD — November 11 is Veterans Day and Perry County Clerk Haven King would like to remind everyone that the birdhouses to benefit the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center are available now at the Clerk’s Office in the Courthouse. For a donation of $20 or more, you can receive one of these unique birdhouses that come in several different designs. All of the proceeds go to benefit the Veterans Center.

The birdhouses are crafted from old license plates. One of the more popular designs uses specialty plates promoting the University of Kentucky. Donations have poured in from all across America, and some have even been sent from outside of the country. This time of year, the Clerk’s Office sees a spike in donations because many people enjoy giving these birdhouses to others as Christmas presents.

It is appropriate that contributors plan to use their birdhouse premiums to spread joy during the holidays because part of the money earned from the birdhouses helps fund the Christmas celebration at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center, where money earned through the donations is presented and gifts that the veterans have on their lists are distributed.

For more information on the birdhouses and making a donation, you can stop by Haven King’s office in the Perry County Courthouse or call 606-436-4614.
