HAZARD — In the U.S. Senate race, Republican incumbent Rand Paul defeated Democratic challenger Jim Gray with 57 percent of the total vote in Kentucky. As far as Perry County is concerned, Paul was victorious with about 62 percent of the vote.
Republicans now control Kentucky’s government, with a Republican Governor and a Republican majority House of Representatives. The same is true for the nation as a whole, with Republican Donald Trump winning the Presidency to coincide with a Republican majority House and Senate.
Out of the Straight Party votes cast on Election Day in Perry County, nearly 62 percent of those votes belonged to Republicans. In the partisan races on the Nov. 8 ballot, the Republican candidate won all of them in Perry County.
